The Confederation of German Trade Unions: study on 1-Euro-Jobs

The DGB (Confederation of German Trade Unions) has published a worthwhile and critical study on the “most profound instrument of employment politics”. This study shows that 45 % of 1-Euro-Jobs are placed in regular employment positions and therefore displace the conventional employment relationship. The study can be found here:  http://www.dgb.de

An open letter to the new editors-in-chief for the Frankfurter Rundschau on the same subject, but from another perspective- read it and form your own opinion: PDF download

-         “1-Euro-Jobs”: a concept makes its way

-         “compulsory happening 1-Euro-Job”

-         “1-Euro-Job ineffective”

-         “work place destruction through 1-Euro-Jobs”

Unconditional Basic Income

“Unconditional basic income” is a socio-political model of finance transfer, in which every citizen receives a legally specified and identical financial allocation (transfer benefit) from the state, for which no return service must be offered.

Karte vom Netzwerk SelbsthilfeThis basic income is principally discussed on par with the so-called “Bürgergeld” (citizens’ income or citizens’ fee), but mostly to an extent which enables it to secure basic existence without the additional support of other income or conditional social benefits or welfare.

The many models of unconditional basic income discussed in Germany include for instance the”Solidarische Bürgergeld" (solidary citizens’ fee, Althaus-model), the Ulm model or the model of the initiative “Unternimm die Zukunft” founded by Götz Werner.

A similar approach is adopted by the model of “negative income tax” proposed by Milton Friedman, which would however only benefit citizens having a low or no income. Another model of unconditional income is being developed in Switzerland by the “Initiative Grundeinkommen” (Initiative for Basic Income).

The Pi-Project - the Pi-Party
Citizen's Income     pi als Logo

“…The other day someone asked me whether I would still work if I were to receive 1500.00 € basic citizens’ income a month? After thinking for a moment, I answered in about these words: “I’d be much more inclined to take up a job which does not come up to my qualifications or even had to be done for free, than to have to sell out to every corner slave trader for sheer fear for survival, or being forced by the Jobcenter to take up some in all likelihood senseless occupation for One-Euro-Fifty.” K.-D. Krause

The Pi-Project advocates introducing this model into societal reality in the place of hitherto existing benefits such as Hartz 4, old age pensions, Bafög and other transfers.

At this point protagonists all over Germany are trying to create fusions for citizens’ income and to actively take part in the NRW election campaign. Every citizen is welcome to contribute to this project.

Interested parties are meeting:

every sixth day of the month, from 18h00

Herta Str. 6

12051 Berlin, a street off Hermann Street close to the Subway- and S-Bahnstations Hermannstrasse in Neukölln.
