As a rule, a written application is expected. In order to select the right one among a large number of applicantions, most businesses will make a preselection based on the submitted application forms.
The following documents, in that order, are prerequisite to a complete written application:
- Letter of application
- Résumé in table form
- Copy of the last school report
- Certifications of internships and training courses
Tips:
- Write your letters of application on the computer, leaving a 2, 5 cm margin, and print them on white DIN-A4 paper.
- Always hand in letters of application and résumés as newly written originals, and reports and certificates as clear and legible copies.
- Avoid mistakes and pay attention to clean documents without dog ears etc.
- Double check: dates and personal information given in the letter of application and the résumé must match.
- It is advisable to make a copy of each application in order to know what you have written where, when you are invited to a job interview.
- The complete documents are to be placed in a special application folder or a clip-folder (do not punch), in the following order: résumé, then copies of reports and certifications in order of date, starting with the most recent. Place the letter of application into the folder loose. Everything then goes into a large stiff envelope (do not bend).
- Don’t forget your name, address and the right addressee on the envelope.
- Make sure of the proper postal charges, or take the documents to the post personally.
- Some chiefs of staff are impressed by, or even expect, you to inform yourself on the internet (if represented there) about the business and its field ahead of time.
